Happy Holidays !
A Hundred
Hey there wonderful people - Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah !
Allow me the indulgence of touching base with you twice this week, especially on Christmas eve
With seven days to go in 2025 - I have another announcement
I continuously check in with people, and remove readers who aren’t active, and I reached 100+ subscribers last week, on a consistent weekly-moving-average basis. This one is real and not just a one time random spike
We are at 105 right now
- who knew, right ? who the fuck knew ?
Started from the bottom now we here baby !
… ‘twas just me at first, me and my boy Cory from LA who was (and is) my very first reader. Cory - thank you so very much dude. Roger Room, Red Med, Malibu and 90210 baby !!! Happy Hanukkah Cory … each time I watch my Rams on TV, I think of you and tinseltown
My crowd has rockstars - insanely successful and smart people from all walks of life
from Professors to sports columnists and people in the sports world, from NYC real estate agents to data scientists, software engineers and AI engineers in big tech. You know, fancy people with expensive watches from California and Seattle who work for FAANG, Magnificent Seven, semiconductor firms, or the Bro’ligarchy … however you want to call it
from attorneys to research directors and national lab directors, and fascinatingly … undergraduate and graduate students, and people who weren’t even born before Google ! So, when I’m talking about Audrey Hepburn or Quentin Tarantino, chances are these people have no idea what I’m talkin’ about
As I grew more, more and more people from investing, quant, trading and asset management joined in, and I think I have readers from five or more countries
With time, I assembled a big tent of incredibly smart people, and that is one of my biggest motivations to write each week
I’m told a consistent average of 60% + email-open-rate each week is at the very high end of engagement in substack, and a good fraction of people who open it, finish reading it or finish listening to it too
Its fuckin’ awesome … it more than awesome
I have never taken your time for granted, and I shall try my very best to make it worth your while each week
I never want to think about who I’m writing to, because I don’t want to change the way I write, but 100+ is a milestone, and I wanted to share it with you all
A very special thank you to Jon, who really didn’t need to, but gave me my first break by giving me a shoutout on Sports Illustrated. Thank you Jon - I deeply appreciate you. You are Dr Dre who found Marshall Mathers before he wrote Stan
Dear Mr. I’m-too-good to call-or-write-my-fans … !
And a very special thanks to Abe, who asked me to use substack when I was looking for platforms two years ago. Most people didn’t know what substack was in 2023, and now … the world’s best comedians and reporters use it (time changes everything !)
Nehara - you were also one of my very first readers, thank you for taking a chance on me, happy holidays to you
And Angela - I deeply appreciate you reading ADCB, you were one of my first five readers, and I promise to keep my love for the perennially violent NFL in check … those horse-collar tackles are No Bueno indeed. It is so violent that I’m thinking of taking up knitting, cat-sitting and Bikram Yoga on Sundays - screw Roger Goodell and his band of rapscallions
And to you all - thank you for giving me a chance
I certainly hope you don’t feel like that this is about as choreographed as a dog gettin’ fucked on roller-skates (don’t you love Logan Roy ?), while it is a statistical certainty that I will eventually disappoint you at some point, Imma try and delay that for as long as possible
I built this through blood, sweat and bourbon,
well, mostly bourbon
… and a lot of punch lines straight up stolen from Logan Roy, Andrew Schulz, Tina Fey, Russell Peters, Nikki Glaser and Chris Rock
But mostly, really - mostly,
I started ADCB two years ago because I couldn’t stand influencer assholes, untrained crypto bros and morons talk about finance like they actually knew what the catalyst behind market moves was. Gordon Gekko, right ? If these turkeys had a funeral parlor nobody would die
The world is filled with people who ain’t never touched a live market nor read market or order flow in real time, but somehow feel like they are qualified to provide advice and judge people who have been in the trenches
That cocktail of emotions that had genuine amusement, sarcasm and an unbridled old testament rage against unqualified degenerates is the founding inspiration for ADCB
And it fuckin’ worked - because of each and every one of you
Thank you !
Can you help me find great people ? please share my substack with people who would love it. I’d love to grow more, and if I grow more, it is more exciting for me to write more
And, If I may … can I please ask you for a favor ?
I want to sharpen and re-tool as we get to 2026 and make this space more valuable to you. So, give me five minutes of your time this week, and give me feedback at Google Forms here
I can use the average of ratings and use that as a launching pad to grow more in the New Year
It is completely anonymous and you have carte blanche to say whatever you want, and your feedback will shape our 2026
As a reminder,
I want this space to be a great resource for aspiring quants and traders - and the Resources tab is an excellent repository of the tools we use on the Street. I update it all the time
Other than that … have a great Holiday, enjoy Boxing Day and to those of you who live in the southern hemisphere, enjoy the basking sunshine during Christmas
Sending all the love from New York City
LFG baby !
I’ll see you Saturday
